Allied Universal’s team of ‘certified earthquake searchers’ are participating in the rescue efforts after the earthquake disaster in Turkey.
South-eastern Turkey and north-western Syria was struck with a series of devastating earthquakes on the early morning of February 6, 2023. First earthquake in the series was of a powerful 7.8 magnitude. It was followed by a separate earthquake of 7.5 magnitude about 100 kilometres north in the early afternoon. Thousands of buildings, including hospitals and schools, have collapsed 35,000 people have died and many thousands are injured during the earthquakes and numbers are expected to rise.
While local responders are desperately searching through the rubble for survivors, Allied Universal, a globally known security and facility services company, has announced that its team of ‘certified earthquake searchers’ are participating in the rescue efforts in Turkey via its international business G4S.
The G4S employee team of ‘certified earthquake searchers’ based in Turkey have been given special leave from their normal security roles to help with the painstaking search through rubble to locate and rescue survivors.
Allied Universal Global Chairman and CEO Steve Jones said, “We are devasted by the catastrophic earthquake in Turkey and our heartfelt thoughts and condolences go out to everyone affected by this tragic event. The company has more than 300 employees based in southern Turkey, one of the most impacted areas, and we are offering them assistance via the company’s Employee Trust Fund, a charitable trust fund for employees experiencing financial hardship.”
In addition, donations can be made to the Red Cross or ActionAid International to assist with emergency efforts and help those affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.
