CONVICTED: Shoplifter arrested and privately prosecuted by TM Eye

Anthony HUSSEIN of Hampshire Avenue, Slough, SL1, appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates Court today, charged with two counts of Theft, contrary to Section 1 of The Theft Act 1968. He pleaded guilty to both matters.

The case was brought by TM Eye as a private criminal prosecution.

Hussein is a prolific offender with numerous convictions, many of which are for theft and dishonesty.

He was caught by detectives Adam and Ashley from TM Eye’s Prolific Crimes team on the 11th June 2023, stealing goods from two well known retail stores in Ealing Broadway.

Hussein was sentenced to a 12 month Community Order with the following requirements:

i) 12 week curfew 8pm to 6am
ii) 12 month exclusion from all Marks and Spencer and Sports Direct stores in the UK – this means that were he to enter either of those stores in the next 12 months, he would be in breach of his community order.
iii) 20 Probation Rehabilitation days
iv) £114 contribution to the national victim surcharge fund

TM Eye CEO David McKelvey said, “Another prolific shoplifter caught by the TM Eye Prolific Crimes Team and now convicted.

“The team work on behalf of ‘Make it Ealing’ Business Improvement District and have had a dramatic impact on retail crime and offending in the area. Shop staff feel safe with the team only minutes away and able to respond to any incidents.

“TM Eye will continue to ‘catch and convict’ those who choose to commit crime in the areas that we police.”

Poundland Ealing store manager said: “This program is very effective. Your officers are doing an excellent. I got a lot stock recovered from shoplifters. After the programme had started, we found that shoplifting reduced by 80%. Before we had a lot of issues with shoplifters and we felt helpless. A lot of grab and run cases in the Ealing area. Now we feel safe, my staff don’t have to approach people, and generally the amount of crime has decreased. So me and my team feel safe to work in Ealing. So to keep businesses safe, this programme is very
effective.”
