Mitie secures new multimillion pound contract with NATS

Mitie will deliver integrated facilities management services for NATS during the five-year contract, including engineering, security, cleaning, logistics, energy services and project.

As the UK’s leading provider of air control services handling 2.4 million flights and 250 million passengers in UK space every year, NATS provides air traffic navigation services to aircraft flying through UK controlled airspace and at numerous UK and international airports. Under the contract, Mitie will deliver fully integrated service across the length and breadth of the UK, from NATS’ Corporate Technology Centre in Whiteley to its air traffic control (ATC) centres in Swanwick and Prestwick, airport towers at locations such as Heathrow, Stansted, and Glasgow, and its communication, navigation and surveillance (CNS) sites located throughout the country.

Mitie has an extensive aviation expertise gained through its current contracts at various UK airports and uses industry-leading technology such as its Mozaic software, which optimises workspace performance, giving a full oversight of Mitie’s performance and management of contracts. Mozaic will be used for NATS contract as well to show the key data such as job status, time to complete, and first-time fix rate for all tasks being undertaken on the contract. Collected data will also be used to generate insights to identify areas for improvement to drive cost efficiencies and service enhancements for NATS. The tasks under the NATS contract will include, for example, engineering services to maintain critical infrastructure that supports around 8,000 flights per day, and decarbonization efforts by Mitie’s ‘Plan Zero’ team who will identify areas for carbon saving, such as the introduction of electric vehicles (EVs) and sustainable uniforms for the personnel wherever possible.

Tim Bullock, NATS Chief Procurement Officer & Director of Property said: “Following a thorough tender process and market assessment, we are delighted to be partnering with Mitie for the provision of our Facilities Management services. Their compelling proposition ensures a collaborative approach and smooth transition between our facilities suppliers. This move helps to support our strategy to 2040 by offering a safe service, an inclusive and diverse culture, a carbon-negative future and a sustainable business.”
