Safer Business Network: “We are in a great position to make real change”

Safer Business Network CEO said information sharing could enable to make real change at the Retail Risk 2023 Conference.

Hannah Wadey, Safer Business Network CEO, discussed information sharing, its barriers and its benefits at the London conference.

“We are in a great position to make real change,” Wadey said.

According to Business Crime Reduction Partnerships (BCRP), prolific offenders are 4 times more likely to be aggressive with a detrimental impact on staff well-being morale and delivery.

That’s why all parties “need to get better at sharing information, at talking to each other and identify those high harm high volume offenders that not only have a negative impact on businesses but also, and perhaps more importantly, on staff safety,” Safer Business Network said.

“As BCRPs, we know these offenders are a shared problem amongst local businesses and only by working together we can put a stop to their behaviour,” Safer Business Network added.

National Association of Business Crime Partnerships (NABCP) revealed 2023 crime survey report highlighted that 867 incidents of violence and abuse occur each day within the retail sector.

A spokesperson from NABCP shared: “To spread awareness we will be participating in the Shop Kind week from April 17th-April 23rd, sharing informational posts to showcase the present issues.”

Retailers Against Crime also reported that incidents increased by 7% in March compared to February with the amount stolen rising by over 10%.

Top 3 most targeted items were groceries, alcohol, and clothing/accessories, in that order. Highest value stolen was alcohol while groceries came 4th in terms of value stolen despite their being the most targeted item.
