FGH Security celebrates its 20th anniversary in the private security industry in the UK as one of the major players in the establishment of the sector.
Peter Harrison, Managing Director, said: “What an incredible achievement to reach this milestone, and it’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone who has contributed to the organisation’s success over the years.”
FGH Security was founded on 27th March 2003 with the mission and purpose of raising the standards in the UK Private Security Industry.
In early 2003, their very first customers were Grizedale and County Colleges at Lancaster University for whom they provided a team to work one night only for the Extravaganza parties.
“At the time, Door Supervisors were still called Bouncers, and many wore bomber jackets and tracksuits and would smoke on the door,” a spokesman from FGH says.
“Extreme, unnecessary violence was commonplace, and it was not unusual for teams of Bouncers to meet for a few pints prior to starting work!
“The training was different back then too; Door Supervisors took a one-day course and then applied for a licence with their local council.
“It cost £40 per year for the licence. Security Guards nationwide had no licence or training given.
“We aimed to raise these standards.
“We created many new courses, implemented hundreds of procedures, and developed best practices in hospitality, security and incident management.”
So FGH Security took on its first major Event Security contract – a small 800 capacity event in Kendal named Kendal Calling: “Little did we know at the time it would grow to the incredible 30,000 capacity event it is today,” FGH said.
“Our team onsite at Kendal Calling has grown from just 15 in 2005 to over 350 at the 2019 festival.”
In 2006, FGH established a Security Guarding division, its first customer being Lancashire County Council. It also saw the introduction of the SIA and the SIA Approved Contractor Scheme.
FGH Security helped pilot the ACS scheme and played a part in drawing up the first workbook for the SIA.
“We were one of the first companies in the UK to hold SIA Approved Contractor Status – there are around 850 now,” FGH Security said.
“We continue to be SIA Accredited Contractors for the provision of Door Supervision and Security Guarding.”
Since then, they have continued to progress and make their mark on the industry to become the FGH you know today.
FGH Security states: “And we like to think that we continue to play a leading role in raising the standard of the Security Industry.”
