A video appeared on Sunday on social media showing 6 police officers restraining a man in Burnley. It is unkown what led to the arrest. Lancashire Police reassure members of the public that the matter will be investigated thoroughly and properly.
A TikTok user shared the video which shows a man being restrained by 6 officers, during which one officer punches and slaps the man on the ground.
The man on the ground can be heard screaming.
After witnessing the incident, the person shooting the video reacts to officers saying “There is no need to hit him like that!”
The man asks “What’s your name?” multiple times to the officer who has slapped him when officers are putting him into the back of a police van, to which the officer responds by saying “Shut up!”
Lancashire Police released a statement following the incident saying the alleged incident is being investigated: “We have been made aware of a video circulating on social media regarding the conduct of an officer during an arrest in Burnley during the early hours of Sunday, May 28th, 2023.
“The matter is being investigated and has been referred to our Professional Standards Department.
“It would be inappropriate to comment further while the incident is being looked into but we would like to reassure members of the public that we will investigate this matter thoroughly and properly.”
