Safety and Security Manager

IHG Hotels & Resorts is one of the world’s leading hotel companies with around 350,000 colleagues working across more than 100 countries to deliver true hospitality for good. Our diverse portfolio of differentiated brands are well known and loved by millions of consumers around the world.

We genuinely care for our entire IHG Hotels & Resorts family. All our colleagues are valued, and their wellbeing matters to us. We provide the support our colleagues need to succeed and recognise them for their hard work. Our diverse global community values different perspectives and cultures.

Your day to day:

As our new Safety & Security Manager Europe, you will report directly into the Safety & Security Director, Europe. You will be a confident and self-sufficient project leader and you will act as the key business partner for the European region on all Safety & Security matters.

This role has two main streams:

  • To build capability across our European region through implementation of IHG’s Global Safety & Security programme at a regional level.
  • Provide reactive support to the European region on safety and security matters. This role is a key conduit between Global Safety & Security and the European region.

You will be tasked with building and maintaining fluency in both regulatory and ‘local code’ requirements relating to Safety & Security across the European region. This will include horizon scanning for changes to code that might impact the business. You will ensure that IHG’s Global Brand Safety Standards are upheld across the region throughout the hotel lifecycle. This includes cascading operational safety and security standards and supporting implementation into hotels. You will then measure that implementation, through self-lead and on-site audits and compliance to drive continuous improvement.

As well as the duties outlined above you will have the following accountabilities:

  • Proactively build safety and security capability across key stakeholders in the European region; leveraging global safety and security content (procedures, guidance, training materials etc.) to support risk owners in operating our business responsibly
  • Support regional stakeholders in mitigating that risk through a combination of global/regional initiatives, and effective management of metrics and compliance matters
  • Provide reactive support to safety and security issues and enquiries such as incident investigation, enforcement agency liaison, and engaging with key stakeholders
  • Act as a key link between Global Crisis and Resilience colleagues and regional leadership, to support the adoption of best practice.

What we need from you:

  • Demonstrable management experience of safety and/or security across more than one geography/jurisdiction
  • Significant experience of operating in a business partner/advisor role within the safety & security domain as the primary point of contact on safety and/or security for one or more locations
  • Experience in the hotel, hospitality, events, retail or similar property-heavy sectors
  • Deep understanding and proficiency in relation to risk, assurance and other similar concepts
  • Highly innovative, able to examine challenges, define outcomes, and appraise novel solutions
  • Influential; able to understand stakeholder challenges from their perspective and influence outcomes
  • Demonstratable ability to define, coordinate and execute projects
  • Tangible experience of resolving complex fire safety matters to deliver cost effective solutions
  • Specific technical proficiency in one or more relevant sub-topics within safety and security (such as legionella, fire safety, etc. highly desirable)

What we offer:

At IHG we give our colleagues greater flexibility and balance – working in a hybrid way, blending remote and office working. Although we thrive on collaborating in person, we expect that you’re likely to spend time working remotely. Every role is different, and colleagues work with their team and their leader to determine how and when they collaborate in person. We like to believe we offer a unique culture where you have room to be yourself.

Alongside our great working environment, we’ll offer you a strong industry competitive package, including healthcare and incredible worldwide hotel discounts.

As an equal opportunity employer, IHG is committed to providing a working culture that values diversity equity and inclusion and is committed to making reasonable adjustments to provide a barrier-free recruitment process and working environment.
