St Pauls death: Full police statement after Grosvenor Road tragedy

A young man has tragically died after he was found seriously injured in St Pauls last night. The Bristol man, believed to be in his late teens, has been described as a “lad who was very loved”.

Another man, also in his late teens, has been arrested in relation to the incident and remained in police custody as of this morning (Saturday, July 22). Avon and Somerset Police said the victim, who has not yet been formally identified, was found with injuries on Grosvenor Road just after 11pm.

His immediate family are aware and are being supported by specially-trained family liaison officers. People in the St Pauls community have spoken of their shock and sadness after waking up this morning to learn of the tragedy overnight.

The full police statement, released shortly before 10.30am this morning, is below:

“Police were called after a man was found with injuries on Grosvenor Road, St Paul’s, Bristol, just after 11pm on Friday 21 July. The man was taken to hospital by ambulance and, sadly, has died.

“While no formal identification has taken place, he’s believed to be in his late teens and from Bristol. His immediate family are aware and have our deepest sympathy. They will be supported by specially-trained family liaison officers.

“A man, also in his late teens, has been arrested and remains in police custody at this time. We’re very grateful to the community for their support to the officers who attended this tragic incident.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area while our enquiries continue and we’d encourage anyone with concerns to speak to our officers. The investigation is at a very early stage and we’d ask anyone with information or footage which could help our enquiries please call 101 and give the reference 5223175298.

Police have not yet stated the nature of the injuries sustained or any more circumstances about what happened. The force has also not disclosed what the other man has been arrested on suspicion of.
