Masterclass for physical security will teach latest strategies for professional development

“Masterclass ’23 Physical Security Protection in an Age of Technology”, Optimal Risk Group’s 5-day course, aims to teach security professionals the latest strategies for protection against various threats.

The course is due to start on 15 May and it has been designed to minimize impact on the working day, by spreading 10 hours of online engagement and learning over a week.

On Day 1 of the program, the topic will be the world of terrorism and counter-terrorism. Instructors will include: Charles Swanson, an author and security management academic and specialist; Dr Samantha Newbery MSyI, a leading scholar on terrorism and extremism; and Andrew D., a former intelligence officer with extensive counter-terrorism experience.

Following days will include the topics below:          

Day 2: The Cyber Threat.

This session will include an introduction to cybercrime, and current mitigation strategies introduced to reduce this formidable threat. It will also cover threat intelligence and Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT)

Day 3: Security Risk Management.

The third day will examine risk and the security risk assessment, including contemporary risk control measures. Complementing the risk session, delegates will be introduced to the physical on-site security survey. The session will end with an examination of two critical elements, defence in depth and the Operational Requirement (OR) 

Day 4: Integrated Technology to Mitigate Crime.

Day four will examine advancement and acceptance of security technology, before delegates are taken through the challenges of Video Surveillance Systems (VSS);  completing the session by looking at perimeter protection.

Day 5: Technology and Education.

The final day will begin with a presentation which will illustrate the criticality of training and education in the security industry, followed by sessions on technology detection and protection; completed by examining current access control systems.
